Check your font
The checker shows whether a font has the 9 Kazakh Cyrillic letters (Ә Ғ Қ Ң Ө Ұ Ү Һ І) and the 9 characters of the 2021 Kazakh Latin alphabet (Ä Ğ Ñ Ö Ş Ū Ü İ ı), in upper and lower case. Drop a .ttf, .otf or .woff file — it is never uploaded; the check runs in your browser.
What is checked
The Cyrillic Kazakh alphabet has 42 letters: the 33 letters of the Russian alphabet plus 9 of its own — Ә, Ғ, Қ, Ң, Ө, Ұ, Ү, Һ and І. These nine are the ones most often missing from fonts labelled “Cyrillic”. The 2021 Latin alphabet needs Ä, Ğ, Ñ, Ö, Ş, Ū, Ü, plus İ and ı — a capital I with a dot and a dotless lowercase i. The checker looks for every character in both cases and shows which are missing.
How it works
Your browser opens the font file with the opentype.js library and reads its character map — the list of glyphs drawn in the font. The file is not uploaded to a server, so you can safely check paid and unreleased fonts. WOFF2 isn’t supported yet: save the font as .ttf, .otf or .woff.
What to do if letters are missing
If a font lacks some letters, apps substitute them from another font, and it shows in the text. You have three options: pick another font with full support from the catalog, ask the type designer to add the glyphs, or find a similar font under “Similar fonts with full support” on the font’s page.
How catalog fonts are checked
Every font in the catalog was checked the same way, just in advance: a script opened each font file and recorded which Kazakh letters are missing. That’s why every font page shows at a glance whether support is full, partial or Latin only.
