Kazakh fonts in Canva: how to check them and upload your own

Not every Canva font has Ә, Ғ, Қ, Ң, Ө, Ұ, Ү, Һ and І. Here’s how to check a font in a minute and how to upload your own font with Kazakh letters.

Canva has hundreds of fonts, but far from all of them include the Kazakh letters Ә, Ғ, Қ, Ң, Ө, Ұ, Ү, Һ and І. When a letter is missing, Canva borrows it from another font, and your headline ends up with a “foreign” Қ or a Ұ of a different weight. Checking a font takes a minute.

How to check a font in Canva

  1. Add a text box and type the phrase «Әсем қыз Ғалия көңілді, ұялшақ, үнемі һәм ілтипатты» — it contains all nine Kazakh letters.
  2. Pick a font and enlarge the text: every letter should share the same design and weight.
  3. If one or two letters look different, the font doesn’t support Kazakh — choose another one.

Which fonts to look for

Canva’s built-in fonts largely overlap with the Google Fonts library. Search by name for fonts marked with full support in our catalog: Montserrat, Roboto, Inter, Lora. Still, test them with the sample phrase before you start — Canva may ship a different version of the file.

How to upload your own font

Uploading custom fonts is available on paid Canva plans. Open the font’s page in the Kazakh Fonts catalog and click «Download ↗»: this takes you to the font’s page on Google Fonts, where you can download the archive with the files. Then in Canva go to «Brand» → «Fonts» → «Upload a font» and select the .ttf or .otf file. The font will appear in the list across all your designs.

Every font in our catalog is distributed under the SIL Open Font License — you can upload them to Canva and use them in commercial designs.

If you’re on the free plan

Choose from the built-in fonts and check them with the sample phrase. The full list of fonts with verified Kazakh support is in the catalog, and letters to copy are on the Kazakh alphabet page.
