Script fonts with Kazakh: why they’re so rare and where to find them

A script font is dozens of connections and alternate forms. Every new letter has to be not only drawn but also joined to its neighbors, which is why Kazakh letters rarely make it into these fonts.

Passed the check

• Caveat — lively handwriting, four weights, variable.
• Bad Script — neat calligraphy for invitations and greeting cards.
• Pacifico — a rounded retro script for signage and packaging.
• Lobster — a dense decorative font for headlines.

Didn’t pass

Marck Script, Great Vibes, Amatic SC and Neucha include Cyrillic but lack most Kazakh letters. In a layout it looks like a typo: the letter «Қ» suddenly turns into print.

How to test scripts

Type words with Kazakh letters in the middle: «көңілді», «ұялшақ». That shows whether the letter connects to its neighbors or breaks the rhythm of the line.
