Choosing a font for a Kazakh-language logo without getting it wrong

A Kazakh brand name almost always contains at least one of Ә, Ғ, Қ, Ң, Ө, Ұ, Ү, Һ or І. If the font doesn’t support them, the logo has to be redrawn by hand — which costs time, money and risks a mismatch with the rest of the identity.

Five steps

1. Type the brand name in the catalog in both scripts at once: Cyrillic and Latin 2021.
2. Check every weight you plan to use — from Light to Black.
3. Look at the mark at small sizes: 16–24 px, as in an app icon or favicon.
4. Check the license: a logo needs a commercial license with no trademark restrictions.
5. Compare two or three similar fonts side by side — the catalog’s grid view makes this easy.

Where to start

For classic, formal brands, try Forum and Cormorant Garamond with their traditional proportions; for modern ones, Geologica and Montserrat. All four fully support Kazakh Cyrillic and Latin 2021.
